Hornets come away with big win in the 8th vs Woodstock 11-10

The Hornets continued their 2010 spring non-region schedule with a home game versus the always competitive Woodstock Wolverines coming away with another big win in eight innings (11-10). Zane Evans drew his first start of the year for the Hornets pitching 3 innings & allowing 5 runs on 4hits and 2 errors. Evans was relieved by Matt Simpson who also pitched 3 innings: allowing 3 runs on 3 hits. Doing a fantastic job closing out the game was Anthony Petitti allowing 2 runs on 4 hits.

 The Hornets offense was held at bay for (4) innings by the Wolverines crafty lefty until the 5th inning when the Hornets bats came to life scoring (6) runs on (5) hits to bring the score to Wolverines (8) Hornets (6) after five innings complete.

The Hornets took the lead in the 6th inning scoring (4) runs on (3) hits, making the score Hornets (10) and Wolverines (8). The Hornets lead would not stand long as the Wolverines came back with (2) runs in the top of the 7th to tie the score at (10) all. The Hornets ended up scoring the winning run in the bottom of the 8th inning when Tyler Greene reached base with a lead-off walk, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Taylor Muldowny went to third on a groundout by Chris Wright and eventually scored on a wild pitch.

 Hitting leaders for the Hornets were: Vincent Cottone (1) single, (1) RBI, Ryan McDonald (1) single (1) double and (1) RBI, Chad Woodhead (1) single (1) RBI, Zane Evans (2) singles (3) RBI’s, Tyler Greene (1) triple (1) RBI and Taylor Muldowny (1) single, (1) double and (3) RBI’s.

The Hornets play another home non-region game tonight versus Redan H.S.          …   Go Hornets !!!
