The Hornets played the Redan H.S. Raiders on Friday evening beating the Raiders in a (5) inning run-rule shortened game, Roswell 11 – Redan 0.
Andrew Smith got the start for the Hornets pitching a dominant (5) innings and picking up his second win of the short 2010 season allowing: no runs on 3 hits and 1 Hornet error.
The Hornets jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first when Vinny Cottone lead off the inning with a walk, followed by Chad Woodhead with a single and a (3) run line drive home-run by Zane Evans (3RBI’s). Tyler Greene was then hit by a pitch, followed by Ryan McDonald with a line-drive single advancing Tyler Greene who eventually scored on a wild pitch. Score: Raiders 0 - Hornets 4.
Andrew Smith allowed a lead-off double and then retired the Raiders in order to start off the second inning. The Hornets scored (2) more runs in the bottom of the second when Andrew Chester lead off the inning with a line-drive single followed by a base-on-balls to Vinny Cottone, a line-drive single by Chad Woodhead to load the bases and a line-drive single by Zane Evans (2RBI’s) before the inning came to a close. Score: Raiders 0 - Hornets 6.
The Hornets put (2) more runs on the board in the third inning when Chris Wright lead off the inning with a base-on-balls, Andrew Chester hit a single and both eventually scored on a Raider’s throwing error. Score: Raiders 0 - Hornets 8.
Andrew Smith struck out the side in the fourth inning and the Hornets were also held scoreless in the inning.
The fifth and final inning began with Andrew Smith in his groove, again retiring the Raiders in order. Andrew Chester and Vinny Cottone started of the Hornets final inning with a base-on-balls, eventually bringing Zane Evans to the plate who ended the game in style with a (3) run walk-off bomb to left-center (3RBI’s) bringing his game total to (8) RBI’s. Final Score: Raiders 0 – Hornets 11.
