The Hornets played their 2010 home season opener versus the Union Grove Wolverines on a chilly/windy late February Friday evening. Andrew Smith drew the start for the Hornets and showed his talents to the crowd. Andrew was very dominating on the hill allowing only (2) Wolverine hits and striking out (10) on no Hornet errors through (6) complete innings. The side winding Anthony Petitti closed out the game retiring the Wolverines in order in the 7th.
The Hornets scored both of their runs in the bottom of the first when Vinny Cottone reached first on a throwing error, followed by a single to left-center by Zane Evans, a base-on-balls to Taylor Muldowny and a (2) RBI line-drive single to right-center by Ryan McDonald. The Hornets scattered (4) other hits throughout the remainder of the game: a pair of singles by Nick Vinson, and a single apiece by Ryan McDonald and Taylor Muldowny.
The Hornets travel to Grayson H.S. on Saturday Feb. 27th for their first away game of the 2010 season.
